Bath & Wellness Grade Epsom Salt: A Guide for Brands

14 Oct 2024 · 5 min read · magsulf.com

Bath salts, foot soaks, float tanks and body scrubs are among the fastest-growing uses of Epsom salt. For brands, the product is the hero ingredient, so its look and purity matter as much as its chemistry.

What bath and wellness grade means

Bath grade is magnesium sulphate heptahydrate with a high assay, low heavy metals and good visual quality: white or clear crystals, no dark specks, no odour. Many brands specify food or pharmacopoeia-grade material for added confidence in purity claims.

Crystal size

Crystal size changes the product experience and the look in a clear jar.

  • Fine (0.1–1 mm) — dissolves fastest; used in scrubs and blended salts.
  • Medium (1–3 mm) — the classic bath-salt look.
  • Coarse (2–4 mm and 4–7 mm) — premium look in retail packs; slower to dissolve.

Blending with fragrance and colour

Dry, free-flowing crystals take essential oils and colourants evenly. Caked or damp material blends poorly and can clump in the final pack, so storage and inner liners matter.

Claims and labelling

Brands should keep marketing claims in line with the cosmetic and consumer-product rules of each market they sell into, and keep supplier COAs on file to support quality statements.

Private label and bulk

We supply bath-grade heptahydrate in bulk 25 kg lined bags for brands that pack themselves, and can discuss private-label retail packs for larger programmes. Tell us your crystal size and packing, and we will send samples with a COA.
